Eli Manning still getting up to speed with new offense

Eli Manning said he would be physically ready to play in a game if the Giants had one this week. It's a little early to be trotting the new offense out onto that hypothetical field just yet, though.

"We haven't gotten everything," the quarterback said of installing the new offense this spring. "I'm not 100-percent comfortable with everything going on. There's still some learning curve, still some things I have to digest."

Manning spoke at the annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind golf event at Mount Kisco Country Club on Monday. Usually it's a day he spends supporting one of his favorite causes and leaving football behind. This offseason, there is no such free time.

"On the way over here, I was looking at [the offense], watching practice, watching the practice for tomorrow and looking at the installation and old notes, just trying to get as prepared as possible for each practice," Manning said of the ride from New Jersey to Westchester after Monday's seventh OTA workout. "A lot of preparation goes into just getting prepared for the next practice and watching the practice previously."

Of course, the Giants aren't supposed to have a firm grasp on the offense just yet. The players are only a few weeks into the process. They have three more OTAs this week and three days of minicamp next week before getting a month off and returning for training camp in July.

"I think the more reps you get and more looks you get, the better off we're getting," Manning said. "[We're] making strides and feeling more comfortable throughout the practice, but there's always a few things where we have some questions after it happens maybe I hadn't thought of beforehand . . . I feel good about what our offense can do and the potential of it. It's just getting to the point where we have a great mastery of it from the mental capacity."

Notes & quotes: Manning admittedly doesn't know a lot about hockey, but he knows about being counted out and coming back to win a title. If the Rangers can accomplish that feat, Manning said they'll have that in common. "I think hopefully, they can have a big turnaround," Manning said a few hours before Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. "They're in a little bit of a hole right now, but if they're anything like the '07 Giants, I guess they can come out of the hole and be down and come back out and win it. That'd be a similarity."
