The Giants pulled off a free-agent surprise Wednesday. Not by signing someone unexpected, but by bringing back someone who was expected to leave.

Offensive lineman Evan Neal was re-signed to a one-year minimum deal, according to a league source. Neal didn’t play an offensive snap last season and hasn’t since Week 17 in 2024.

The former 2022 first-round pick seemed on his way to a fresh start with another team after a disappointing tenure. The Giants sealed his fate last spring by not picking up his fifth-year option.

Neal switched from tackle to guard last offseason but was a healthy inactive for nine of the Giants’ first 10 games. He was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, yet remained inactive when his practice window opened up.

Neal will now audition for new coach John Harbaugh in an attempt to salvage his career by impressing a new staff.

Blue Notes: The Giants re-signed linebacker Zaire Barnes to a one-year deal, according to a league source. Long snapper Casey Kreiter agreed to a deal with the Cardinals, ending his five-year tenure with the Giants.
