Amani is sorry.

The former Giants wide receiver, who on Wednesday described the way Roger Goodell runs the NFL as a “Gestapo-type situation” in a radio interview on 1050 ESPN in New York, apologized on Thursday evening in an email sent to several media outlets including Newsday.

“Obviously I didn't fully understand the meaning of what I said,” Toomer wrote. “I do now. It was a stupid, inappropriate and offensive thing to say. I apologize for my choice of words, and I apologize to Commissioner Goodell for the offensive characterization.”
