Brandon Jacobs received death threats via Twitter this week, warning the running back that if he didn't rush for 50 yards and two touchdowns it would be "over for you and yo [sic] family."

Jacobs, who was inactive for the game against the Vikings with a hamstring injury, posted a picture of the threats Tuesday morning, which came from a user who called himself Andre Raynor with the handle @DMMeBoo.

"Look at what we deal with . . . " Jacobs wrote before posting a screen grab of the threats.

The Giants said that NFL Security is looking into the matter; the NFL did not comment.

The two threatening tweets, which were written in all capital letters, read:

"ON LIFE BRANDON IF YOU DON'T RUSH FOR 50 YARDS AND 2 TOUCHDOWNS TONIGHT ITS OVER FOR YOU AND YO FAMILY ----" and "FULFIL MY ORDERS STATED IN THE PREVIOUS TWEET OR THAT'S YO LIFE BRUH AND IM NOT PLAYING".

Tom Coughlin said he was troubled by the threats.

"You're always concerned about the player and his family," Coughlin said. "For young people to have to worry about things like that, it's not necessary, it's not a part of what we do. I'm not going to speculate on social media. I'm just concerned about however this would be revealed that it's wrong and it has no business in our game."

The account that sent the threatening tweets later posted several more asking Jacobs' forgiveness and apparently tried to pass it off as a joke.

"BRO RELAX ITS NEVER THAT SERIOUS . . . ITS JUST TWITTER MAN."

Jacobs did not respond to those tweets.

It was just last week that Jacobs was discussing the proximity of fans to athletes on social media in the context of their taunts and jibes -- usually anonymous -- over the Giants' 0-6 start.

"I've heard nice things on Twitter and I've heard super-bad things on Twitter," Jacobs said. "But Twitter is Twitter. You've got your little cyber-gangsters out there that try to be strong behind the keyboard. But it is what it is. That's what it is. Someone created that platform for people to I guess get their rocks off without getting punched in the mouth."
