Ramses Barden was doing some running and stretching on a nearby field while Adam Koets was nowhere to be foud during today's one and only bye week practice.
Why is that significant? Because those two players are on PUP and they are eligible to come off it this week.
But relax. There is no setback that is causing them to keep their distance from the team. At least none that we know of. Rather, it is more likely a tactical move to get as much of a window as the Giants can for their return.
After Week 6, which is where we are now, a PUP player has three weeks to begin practicing, at which point a three-week clock begins to tick towards a decision to either activate the player or pup him on IR. So it would have been foolish for the Giants to have Barden or Koets on the field today and burn an entire week of evaluation time for what is essentially an off-week practice in shells.
Not saying the Giants will use all six weeks at their disposal for those players. Barden looks like he'll be ready to practice starting next week. But there's no need to start the clock before the Giants have to when they don;t have a game for another 12 days.
Also noteworthy at today's "practice," Osi Umenyiora (knee), Justin Tuck (groin/neck) and Kenny Phillips (ribs) were not working. Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Chris Snee (concussion) were not seen. Henry Hynosky (neck) was doing some team stretching but was not wearing the shells. And Prince Amukamara was doing some running and drills on the side. He was not in shells either.
