Odell Beckham Jr’s workout with the Giants this past week sparked more visions of a reunion with the wide receiver. But those plans aren’t close to crystallizing yet.
Coach John Harbaugh said that Beckham, who also took a physical, looked good on the field. The plan for the two to speak on Tuesday to see where both sides are with things.
“I think if we do anything, it has to make sense for the Giants. Has to make sense for him,” Harbaugh said. “He’s in a different place in his career for sure.
Beckham hasn’t played since the 2024 season but spent his first five seasons with the Giants and had four 1,000-yard seasons. Harbaugh said Beckham would be fine with whatever role he’s asked to do.
The Giants signed free agent receivers Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III this offseason and drafted Malachi Fields in the third round. There’s also an awareness that Beckham, 33, won’t be the same dynamic player he was a decade ago.
Yet Harbaugh praised Beckham for being willing to be a mentor as much as a contributor if the Giants sign him.
“The thing I love about Odell is right now, he’s in such a good place in terms of his humility,” Harbaugh said. “He wants to be part of a team. He wants to contribute, wants to help the young guys. That’s what he’s talking about doing.
“It’s not going to be the old Odell. It’s gonna be a different version, 2.0 Odell I guess you could say. But we’re not deciding on that yet. He’s not decided on that. I think we just have to see where we’re at this next week.”
Giants add three sixth-round picks
The Giants wrapped up the draft with three picks in the sixth round Saturday. They took Auburn defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis with the 186th pick, Illinois offensive lineman J.C. Davis with pick No. 192 and BYU linebacker Jack Kelly with the 193rd pick.
Jamison-Travis spent three seasons at Auburn after becoming a junior college All-American. At 6-4, 328 pounds, he started 16 games over two seasons with the Tigers, including 12 games last season.
Davis was first-team All Big-10 at Illinois last season. He played exclusively at left tackle in college, including two seasons at New Mexico, but took reps at guard during the Senior Bowl.
Kelly had 10 sacks last season at BYU and was a first-time All Big 12 selection. He spent his first three seasons at Weber State and could possibly see reps at both linebacker or special teams
