Stop the run. Stop the run. Stop the run. Stop the …

All week long the Giants proclaimed that even though the Colts ran the ball only 10 times in their opening week loss to the Texans, the first thing to accomplish today would be to .. say it with me now … stop the run.

And yet the Giants have only two true defensive tackles active tonight, one of them who can play defensive end if need by. That’s be Chris Canty. Barry Cofield is really the only anchor player on the defensive line. Both Linval Joseph and Rocky Bernard were inactive.

Sure they can move Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck and even Mathias Kiwanuka inside. Dave Tollefson can play there in a pinch too. But clearly the Giants are more concerned with stopping the pass.

Every defensive back and every healthy linebacker (minus injured Chase Blackburn and Phillip Dillard) is active.

The Giants also activated Victor Cruz for the first time. He takes the place of Ramses Barden, who played last week.

Oh, and those questionable guys who were gametime decisions? Well, it’s gametime and they’ve been decided. WR Hakeem Nicks (ankle) and DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) will play. They’re both listed as starters, too, but in Osi’s case in particular that could depend on what package the Giants start out in.

How about Kiwanuka, Umenyiora, Tuck and Pierre-Paul lined up across the front on the first snap? Could very well happen.
