Giants' Jamon Brown, who started season with Rams, could get Super Bowl ring

ATLANTA – The Giants won only five games and didn’t come close to making the postseason, but one of their players could wind up with a Super Bowl ring.

Jamon Brown began the season with the Rams, played in six of the first eight games of the schedule as a backup (he was suspended for the first two), then was waived. He was claimed by the Giants and became a key part of their offensive line and the measure of respectability they gained in the second half of the season.

He made an immediate impact on his new team and left a residual impact with his former one. So much so that Los Angeles tackle Andrew Whitworth said that if his team beats the Patriots on Sunday, he thinks the Rams will give Brown a ring for his role with them.

“We were actually sharing this the other night with somebody with the Giants' organization we met with,” Whitworth said on Monday at Super Bowl LIII Opening Night.

The veteran tackle said the best example he could give of how much Brown meant to the Rams was that after he left, all of the offensive linemen and most of the Rams players became big Giants fans. “I don’t think one of us missed a single game he played in for the Giants,” Whitworth said. “I mean, we would sit and root for him every single game watching every snap he played.”

Clearly Brown wasn’t missed very much on the field after he left, given that the Rams did just fine and reached this game. And the player who took his roster spot, linebacker Dante Fowler, had a key play in the NFC Championship Game when he hit Drew Brees to force an overtime interception. So no regrets there. But Brown’s former teammates wish him well.

Brown is due to become a free agent this offseason. “We couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity he has,” Whitworth said.

And on Sunday, he may have an opportunity to capture some Super Bowl spoils without even making it to the game.
