Before he came out for his first practice since breaking a bone in his left hand last week, Rich Seubert had to test out the cast he was wearing. And what better way to do that than to go around the locker room punching people with it?

"It's hard," he said of the cast/weapon. "They soften it up on the outside but still, it's harder than your hands."

The reaction from teammates to being whacked with it was mixed. Dave Tollefson apparently punched Seubert back. And Guy Whimper karate- chopped the bludgeon away.

"Which was good because I wanted to see how it felt," Seubert said.

He was limited to individual drills in the morning. He worked a little bit more in the afternoon session with a different cast that held his wrist at a different angle so he could push more than jab. He complained about not being able to hold defensive players with the cast on - or at least grab them.

"We don't hold but we like to grab," he said, noting the distinction, but he thinks by the time the regular season starts he'll be out of the cast anyway.
