The Giants will receive an extra fourth-round selection in the upcoming draft after the NFL announced its compensatory picks on Friday. The Giants were awarded the 135th overall selection.

NFL rules allow for teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they acquire in the previous year are eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. Those picks are slotted within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the free agents lost.

In the Giants’ case, the equation had them losing DT Johnathan Hankins, OL Marshall Newhouse, DB Coty Sensabaugh and K Robbie Gould. They added TE Rhett Ellison and QB Geno Smith.

In all, 32 compensatory picks were awarded to a total of 15 teams.
