Hakeem Nicks will make his 2013 debut Sunday night against the Colts. The wide receiver was held out of last week's opener against the Steelers after suffering tightness in his groin early in training camp. But after practicing fully this week, he is on track to play the 20 or so snaps the starters are expected to take in the second preseason game.

Justin Tuck and Chris Snee also will make their first appearances of the season. Terrell Thomas, however, will have to wait another week before seeing his first game action in almost two full years. Although Thomas has been practicing and has seen his snap counts rise, Tom Coughlin said he will not play against the Colts.

JPP making progressJason Pierre-Paul had what Coughlin called "an outstanding day" Thursday, running on the field and lifting weights while the rest of the team was off. The defensive end still is on PUP after offseason back surgery. The Giants hope he can return for the regular-season opener.

"He ran well [Thursday]," Coughlin said, noting that Pierre-Paul was sore from the workout and held back Friday. "He's not ready to come out two days in a row and do what he did [Thursday], but I'm encouraged by what he did."

Giant stepsTE Larry Donnell was carted off the field after what appeared to be a serious non-contact injury to his left knee. He left the facility on crutches for tests . . . Eli Manning, David Carr and Ryan Nassib will split the snaps against the Colts on Sunday night. Curtis Painter will get second-string snaps next week and Carr will sit . . . MLB Dan Connor took all of the first-team reps and likely will start Sunday night . . . CB Corey Webster (groin) missed practice after returning Wednesday. Coughlin said he is "day to day" and did not rule him out of Sunday night's game . . . Practice ended with a fight between DE Adewale Ojomo and OL Selvish Capers. "They just lost it," Coughlin said . . . Former Giants RB Brandon Jacobs was a spectator at practice. He is a free agent, but a team source said the visit was social in nature.
