Helmet Guy: "The NFL and the Giants dodged a real bullet"
Interesting transcript of a radio interview from 1070 The Fan in Indy with the "anonymous" Indy fan who wound up with Brandon Jacobs' helmet after it was tossed six rows into the stands on Sunday night. It sounds like this dude accepts that it was an accident, but insists that someone could have been really hurt badly.
Here's the link to the transcript from SportsRadioInterviews.com.
"The two women in front of us were very fortunate they were able to catch that out of their peripherals and react to it by sliding their heads to the side otherwise it would have been a direct hit to their heads," he said. "The NFL and the Giants especially dodged a real bullet there… There were some really hot and heavy fans in that section because of the danger he put us in.”
The fan has his play-by-play a little off. He says the Giantes went three-and-out to start the third quarter, but really they scored a touchdown. Helmet Guy must have missed it because it came on the play immediately following the fling.
The fan also says he thinks he should have been able to keep the helmet, and that it would have been a nice gesture for the Giants or Jacobs to give it to him after Jacobs was done using it.
Turned out Jacobs was in fact done using it when he flung it. So the struggle to get it back was probably for naught.
