Hixon re-signs with Giants

A visit to the doctor, a visit to the general manager, and then straight to Twitter.
“I just got done officially signing back with the Super Bowl Champs!!!,” he posted on his social media account (with some capitalization and usage corrections from me). Then, a few moments later: “Thank you to the best fans in the world and the Giants for giving me an opportunity to play the game I love!”
The wide receiver who has played in only two games in the last two seasons due to two ACL tears in one knee (his right) was examined by team doctors on Friday morning and later in the day signed a new contract with the Giants. Absent a deal, he would have become an unrestricted free agent.
His signing leaves the Giants with 20 potential unrestricted free agents less than two weeks before the market opens and almost assuredly means that the team will not re-sign Mario Manningham, one of the 20.
The terms of Hixon’s deal are not immediately known, but he will earn at least the veteran’s minimum of $825,000 in 2012. That money will not be guaranteed unless he makes the opening day roster.
Hixon missed all of the 2010 season after tearing his ACL in minicamp. He rehabbed, worked his way back, and was the team’s slot receiver in Week 2 of the season. He even made a remarkable, acrobatic, juggling catch for a touchdown in the win over the Rams. But in doing so, he re-injured his knee.
"I'm going to come back and be just as fast and just as explosive and just as good," he said at the time of his second injury in September 2011. "It's just another chapter to the book, and I hope one day a couple of years from now we're talking about what a great comeback, what a Cinderella story it was."
