Ice, ice, baby! Bailey gets cold feet again

ARLINGTON, Texas -- It wasn't Jason Garrett who iced his kicker this time, but the result was the same.
A week after rookie Dan Bailey had a late field goal negated by a timeout and then missed the encore in what became an overtime loss to the Cardinals, he did virtually the same thing against the Giants to allow them to leave with a 37-34 victory.
This time it was Tom Coughlin who shrewdly called the timeout just before the snap on the 47-yard attempt, which sailed through the uprights and would have tied the score and sent the game to overtime. On the second try, Jason Pierre-Paul blocked the kick to seal the win.
"The thing about it is you have a rookie," Coughlin said of icing Bailey. He noted that he has called timeouts in similar situations in the past but could not remember it ever working as well as it did in this game.
For the Giants, it was a rousing victory that catapulted them into a tie for first place with Dallas. For the Cowboys, it was a second straight loss that has them answering questions that would have otherwise been reserved for the Giants -- questions about late collapses in seasons and the inability to win big games in December.
"I know every Dallas Cowboys fan is disappointed," owner Jerry Jones said after the game in uncharacteristically brief remarks to the media. "We are disappointed and we certainly know that we've got our work cut out for us [to] maybe give you guys something positive to write about."
The teams are tied at 7-6, and each still controls its own destiny -- thanks to their Jan. 1 meeting at MetLife Stadium -- but each team will take a very different direction into the final three games.
"This one is going to hurt, it's going to sting," said Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who threw four touchdown passes. "But we need to figure out how to do some things a little better and come back better next week and play our best game of the season next week [against the Bucs]."
