Is Antrel ready to Rolle?
The Giants released a list of 10 players who have either been ruled out or are not expected to play in Saturday’s game against the Jets.
Antrel Rolle’s name is not on that list.
That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play. As we learned last week, these lists are fluid. The Giants had ruled Larry Donnell out of the game the very day they played against the Colts, and there he was on the field two days after being carted off with a knee injury.
But not putting Rolle on the list means there is at least a chance he will suit up and perhaps see a few snaps. He was on the field with the team in a very abbreviated manor on Thursday and has been doing plenty of running and agility drills on the side this past week.
Rolle spoke earlier this week about what it would take for him to return. “Whenever I can go out there and feel like I’m not favoring it,” he said. He also spoke about weighing the balance between rushing back and being patient … especially during the preseason.
“That’s the toughest part,” he said. “I sit down with my coaches and, obviously, we all know what the smart thing is to do. I like being out there with my guys and if I can go, I’d like to go. I’m just going to talk with the coach and see what he wants me to do. If he wants me to push through, then I’ll push through it. If he wants me to chill out and relax, I’ll just chill out and relax.”
We probably won’t know until Saturday night during warmups which Rolle will do.
Here, by the way, is the list of the 10 players who are expected to just chill out and relax: CB Corey Webster (knee/groin); WRs Victor Cruz (heel), Ramses Barden (knee) and Louis Murphy (leg); OL David Baas (knee) and David Diehl (thumb surgery); FB Henry Hynoski (knee); and DE Damontre Moore (shoulder). Jason Pierre-Paul (back) and Markus Kuhn (knee) remain on PUP.
