Jacobs' stiff neck doesn't bother Giants' Coughlin
Tom Coughlin again said he is not concerned about the extent of Brandon Jacobs' neck injury. A little baffled, maybe, but not concerned.
"Don't ask me how this was provoked," Coughlin said a day after indicating that he was told Jacobs was suffering from a stiff neck stemming from a weightlifting injury. "It's the first time we've ever seen this. According to the MRI, it was nothing of a structural nature. It was muscle."
Coughlin said Jacobs should be able to practice Monday after missing Saturday's game.
Giants welcome Andrews
Shawn Andrews has yet to participate in drills or practices with the Giants, but his new offensive linemates already are happy to see him. David Diehl said it's "awesome" that the Giants were able to acquire a player of Andrews' ability. Back injuries forced Andrews to play only two games the last two seasons, but with his history at guard, it is less likely that Diehl will have to play inside, as he has in the first two preseason games. "I can go back to my position," said Diehl, who has played left tackle the last three seasons.
Giant steps
RB D.J. Ware and S Sha'reff Rashad, both of whom suffered concussions in the first quarter Saturday, will undergo tests Monday. It is the second concussion for Ware in nine months. "There is great concern," Coughlin said . . . Coughlin said P Matt Dodge was "a little bit more consistent" but said he and the coverage team need "a lot more work." . . . The Giants pushed back the sale of individual game tickets to non-PSL owners through Ticketmaster from Monday to Tuesday . . . Coughlin was about 15 minutes late for yesterday's conference call. "You guys can fine me," he said to the reporters.
