Today is Brandon Jacobs’ day to talk. It’s not his day to practice.

The running back was not on the field for today’s workout, a pretty good sign that he’ll be unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Bills. In fact, he wasn’t even spotted inside the fieldhouse during the portion of the workout that the media was allowed to watch. For the last two weeks he’s been at least in attendance, if not participating. No word yet on where he might have been. Could be he was getting treatment on his knee. Could be he took Antonio Pierce’s advice to heart and decided that if he was going to be out he’d better get surgery.

(UPDATE: Giants say Jacobs was receiving treatment during practice.)

As for the rest of the Giants, it appears Justin Tuck will be shutting things down until after the bye. He was on the stationary bike and not participating in practice. He hasn’t even been limited since suffering a setback a week ago in practice. If he doesn’t play on Sunday, it would be the third straight game he’ll miss and fourth of six this season.

Some good news? Osi Umenyiora was back at practice after being out yesterday. And David Baas was working for a second straight day after missing last week’s game. Michael Boley was also on the field.

The two players dealing with concussions – Chris Snee and Zak DeOssie – were not seen at practice. It did not appear that the Giants signed a longsnapper to replace DeOssie, so they’ll likely go with Jim Cordle if DeOssie can’t play Sunday.

Henry Hynoski was not practicing. Maybe they’re waiting for his stinger to clear up. Or maybe they ordered him a new pair of shoulder pads on a Blackberry and are waiting for the order to go through.

Prince Amukamara was doing running outside and looked to be going at a pretty good clip. That’s a good sign after he pushed things a little bit yesterday. And Ramses Barden, eligible to come off PUP after this game, was also doing some running outside.

Finally, practice squadder Adrian Tracy appeared to injure his right ankle early in practice. Teams don’t have much patience for players on the practice squad when it comes to injuries that keep them from, you know, practicing. Hopefully Ryan Perrilloux hasn’t gotten very far since he was cut for the fourth time earlier this week.
