As we reported earlier, it did not take the Giants long to replace number 12 … at least the jersey part of it. Rookie Jerrel Jernigan has switched to that number and will wear it as of today and in the preseason game on Saturday.

Turns out Jernigan had been eyeing the jersey since he got here.

“I wore 3 in college and couldn’t wear 3 here,” he said. “One plus two is three and with him leaving I figured I’d snag 3.”

As for him “replacing” Smith in any way?

“It’s just a coincidence,” Jernigan said.
