Jerry Jones to John Mara: 'We'll settle this on the field'

There is no Cowboys player ? not T.O. nor Flozell ? Giants fans love to hate quite as much as owner Jerry Jones. That made victories such as the one in the 2007 playoffs and the one this season in the first game at Cowboys Stadium particularly sweet.

The Cowboys may have about 10 million reasons to be ticked off at the Giants, and none of them involve their NFC East rivalry. Giants owner John Mara is on the NFL’s management council, the same body that punished the Cowboys and Redskins for being naughty during the uncapped season and took away $10 million of cap space from the Cowboys. Mara even said earlier this week that the punishment was appropriate and that the teams were lucky to not lose draft picks.
Jerry Jones’ response?
“I would like to settle this on the field,” he told reporters at the NFL Owners’ Meetings in Florida according to ESPNDallas.com. “Our relationship is good from my perspective.”
Jones will get his wish on Sept. 5 when the Giants host the Cowboys in the NFL’s opening game. Jones is expected to appeal the sanctions against his team to an arbitrator. Will it be cleared up by then?
“We will have all of this in the rear-view mirror hopefully by the time we get to this game,” Jones said.
Jones’ comments came on the same day the NFL owners ratified the agreement between the league and player's union that takes away $36 million in salary cap space from the Redskins and $10 million from the Cowboys. Jones did not comment directly on the decision of his intended appeal.
"We want to stay within the collective bargaining agreement as to how we express and what we do to show we disagree with this cap adjustment," Jones said. "We can’t talk about it and shouldn’t talk about it."
