Josh Brown has been suspended for assault before

This isn’t the first time Josh Brown has had a football suspension stemming from an assault charge.
Brown was found guilty of misdemeanor assault in 2001 when he was a junior kicker for the University of Nebraska. According to an Associated Press report at the time, he was arrested after fighting with a man who had been out on a date with Brown’s ex-girlfriend.
When the woman tried to get between Brown and the other man, Brown threw her to the ground before tackling the other man and punching him, police said, according to the AP. The two men scuffled before the other man gained the advantage, pinning Brown to the ground shortly before police arrived.
Brown was fined $350 after pleading no contest before Lancaster (Nebraska) County Judge James Foster. He was suspended by the Nebraska football team for the 2001 season opener.
Brown, now 37 and a kicker for the Giants, has been suspended for this year’s season opener under the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. It stems from a domestic-violence incident in May 2015. Prosecutors in Brown’s home state of Washington dropped those charges and did not prosecute the crime.
