Shaun O'Hara has had injuries, but the recovery from those have been relatively straight-line affairs. You get hurt, you get treatment, you progress, you return. This ankle injury that showed up on the first day of training camp and has evolved into Achilles tendinosis, though, is a bit different.

"At one point, it would feel like it was getting better, and then it would take a different turn without really knowing exactly why," he said Monday after practicing for the first time since having a cast put on his lower leg almost two weeks ago.

"Going into my 11th year now, I've never really gone through anything like this. It was tough every day not knowing how it was going to respond."

Achilles tendinosis refers to tiny tears in the tissue in and around the tendon. Tendinitis means inflammation.

Sage locks in

Sage Rosenfels is getting used to the new language of the Giants' offense. He's also getting used to the new culture of his team.

After spending the last two years with the tumultuous Vikings as one of Brett Favre's backups, Rosenfels said it was refreshing to come to a more stable franchise. "You're just happy to know what the situation is going to be," he said. He also said: "The best thing is I'm traded to a team that's got great history in the past and great history recently. That's very exciting."

Giant steps

Rookie WR Duke Calhoun had roommate and Giants practice-squad player Seth Williams chop off Calhoun's signature dreadlocks after learning he made the team this weekend. Calhoun had not cut his hair since he was in the ninth grade. "I said when I got a job, I was going to get a haircut," he said. "Look like it's a business."
