Mario Manningham: "I'm ready to go"
Wide receiver Mario Manningham, who suffered a mild concussion in Sunday's loss to Tennessee and sat out Wednesday's practice, passed a baseline test today and was cleared to practice. "I'm good, I'm good," Manningham said. "I'm going to be ready to play Sunday. I was cool, just had a little headache."
The injury resulted from a play near the end of the game when Manningham was tackled and already on the ground when Titans defensive back Michael Griffin piled into him, landing on his head. "I was mad that he jumped on me," Manningham said. "I didn't feel nothing. It was the end of the play. My first reaction was to get up and try to do something, but I couldn't do nothing."
Manningham's 17.0 average gain on 14 receptions this season leads the Giants in yards per catch, so, quarterback Eli Manning will benefit from having his full arsenal available against the Bears Sunday night. But Manningham expressed confidence that Victor Cruz could have come replaced him and done a capable job if necessary.
"It doesn't matter who we put in there," Manningham said. "We don't lose a beat. That's what kind of receiver corps we are, blocking or passing. We take pride in blocking. The running backs block for us."
In related injury news, linebacker Keith Bulluck (turf toe) said he tried to take part in individual drills at the start of today's practice but found it too painful. This is his first experience with turf toe, which is an injury that often lingers throughout a season, but Bulluck expressed confidence in his ability to get back on the field.
"I like my chances," said Bulluck, who came back from knee surgery at the end of last season in time for training camp. "I'm a pretty quick healer. I've been able to overcome a lot of injuries faster than most people would."
Kick returner Darius Reynaud, who sat out Wednesday's practice with a headache, also was back working today. He said it wasn't a concussion and he doesn't remember a specific hit that might have caused it. He simply woke up Wednesday morning with a headache and the left side of his face was numb. But the symptoms were gone today, and he expects to play Sunday.
