Sinorice Moss might not get another chance to make a play this preseason. Does he think that will cost him a spot on the team?

"No. Why would it jeopardize my chances for that?" he asked Thursday. "That's not my opinion at all."

Moss' spot on the 53-man roster certainly is shaky. He's been playing deep on the depth chart and now has an abdominal/groin injury that will force him to miss Saturday night's game against the Ravens and perhaps next week's preseason finale against the Patriots.

"I feel like they know enough about me, but me personally, I still want to be out there to show them more," he said. "They've seen the things that I'm capable of doing in games."

Moss has only one reception for 11 yards, and he admitted he does not yet know his role on the team. Last year he caught two TD passes in the preseason finale against the Pats, which probably got him on the roster. This year he might not have such an opportunity to save himself.

D-linemen coming along

Chris Canty and Jason Pierre-Paul, who sat out the last two days with groin injuries, returned in a limited capacity. They participated in individual drills for about 45 minutes. "They were out here running around," Tom Coughlin said. Neither seems likely to play Saturday night.

Jay Alford, meanwhile, sat out with what he called "a little fatigue" in his surgically repaired left knee.

Giant steps

Coughlin said second-year player Rhett Bomar "is in the driver's seat" for the job of backing up Eli Manning when the regular season begins . . . S Sha'reff Rashad returned to practice after suffering a concussion last Saturday . . . Coughlin said CB Terrell Thomas (calf) likely won't play Saturday night.
