If no news is good news, then no MRI is great news. At least that's the way Prince Amukamara is looking at things.

The Giants cornerback, who suffered a groin strain in Saturday's 27-26 preseason win over the Colts, visited doctors in Manhattan on Monday morning but wasn't given an MRI. Amukamara said he took that to mean the injury is not serious enough to warrant such an in-depth examination. Oh, and he's feeling better too.

"The word I would use is 'optimistic,' " he said. "I'm hopeful to play as soon as possible."

Amukamara did not participate in Monday's practice and might not be cleared to see any further preseason action, but Tom Coughlin was impressed that he was on the sideline in pads. "That showed me something about where his mind is," Coughlin said. "He wants to get back out here and get going."

Good footing for Beason?

Still sidelined by a foot injury suffered in the spring, linebacker Jon Beason is inching toward the field. And he thinks he has the proper footwear for when he gets there.

"[We're] going through the process of getting the orthotics, making the adjustments," Beason said. " 'Oh, that doesn't feel too good, that feels too soft, that's too rigid, how's the tape job? We're going to tape it this way. Are we going to go to a bigger cleat, a smaller cleat, is the toe box too wide, is it too narrow?' We've been playing with it and trying to come up with the perfect equation of what's going to help me play on the field, and we're getting really close."

Beckham dinged again

Odell Beckham Jr., who has missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, sat out the second half of practice after taking an apparent hit to the back of his leg. Although it looked as though he might have tweaked the hamstring, the Giants said he is "fine."
