Lambeau is out, London is in.
The NFL announced that this season’s game between the Giants and Packers will not take place in Green Bay but in Great Britain. The two teams will face off on Oct. 9 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It will be the third London game for the Giants in a third different venue. The Giants opened the NFL’s international series with a game at Wembley Stadium against the Dolphins in 2007, the first NFL game ever played outside of North America, and faced the Rams at Twickenham Stadium in 2016.
This year’s contest will be a “home” game for the Packers, who will become the 32nd and last team to participate in the international series. That leaves the Giants with all nine of their home games at MetLife Stadium. The full 17-game schedule will be announced next week, but the NFL unveiled the international contests on Wednesday.
“It’s always an honor to represent the NFL internationally,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do between now and then.”
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened in North London in 2019 and was designed with NFL football in mind. It is the home of Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League and has a seating capacity of 62,850 for soccer, but a little less for the NFL. The Giants and Packers will be the fifth NFL game at the building, including the Jets game against the Falcons there last year.
The other international games announced by the NFL have the Saints and Vikings playing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a week before the Giants and Packers on Oct. 2, the Jaguars and Broncos at Wembley Stadium in London on Oct. 30, the first regular-season game in Germany between the Buccaneers and Seahawks at Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich, on Nov. 13 in Munich, and a Monday Night Football game between the 49ers and Cardinals at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Nov. 21.
