Odell Beckham Jr. said the illness that caused him to miss a series against the Dolphins is “still lingering” a bit, but has gotten better.
“Come Sunday, I think it’ll be all right,” he said.
Maybe the Giants should not hope for a speedy recovery.
Beckham caught seven passes for 166 yards in the game, and after taking two IVs to replenish his fluids after halftime, he caught the tying and go-ahead touchdowns.
“To be honest, some of my better games have been whenever I’m sick,” he said. “I can remember one in high school, I had one of the better games of my life.”
Michael Jordan had his Flu Game. Now Beckham may have had his.
“You know what you’re fighting against and you know how much more it’s going to take out of you,” he said of playing while ill. “I think you push yourself even harder knowing that you are fighting against something already. I don’t know if it really helped me, but it ended up working out OK.”
Beckham said he had an IV last Friday and another before the game on Monday. Still, when he came out for halftime and tried to run the field, he started to cramp up.
“Your body is fighting something and a lot of things are coming out,” he said bluntly. “You can’t really hold much fluids. I tried my best . . . I was like: ‘It’ll be a long half if I don’t get the IV.’ I ran back in and was able to finish the game.”
