Odell Beckham Jr. still not available for Giants

The Giants could certainly use Odell Beckham Jr. this week. But just like all the others so far this season, he won't be available.

Tom Coughlin all but ruled out the first-round pick who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the spring. With Jerrel Jernigan placed on injured reserve this week, this would have been an ideal time for Beckham to step into that role as the outside threat in three receiver packages. Instead, Coughlin said Preston Parker will fill that role.

And Beckham? Will he even practice?

"Not to my knowledge," Coughlin said. "Not with the team. He'll be right there learning, etcetera, etcetera, working on the side, but he won't take any snaps."

At practice on Wednesday Beckham was, in fact, running on the side.

As for the other key injury the Giants are facing this week, Coughlin did not commit to how he would replace Jon Beason (foot/toe).

"I'll maybe address that later in the week if you want to ask that again," Coughlin said when asked if he would slide Jameel McClain to the middle as he did this summer or keep McClain on the outside and put Mark Herzlich in the middle. "McClain has played in the middle, Herzlich has played in the middle. Both have played on the outside, so there's a chance to utilize them in whatever capacity we decide to use, and then of course you have the substitute situations as well."

The Giants don't have much depth at linebacker. With Jacquian Williams on the other outside position and rookie Devon Kennard out with a hamstring, the only other options would be Spencer Paysinger and rookie Dan Fox who was just called up from the practice squad.

All of it could be moot, though, if Beason is somehow able to play. He did not practice on Wednesday but Coughlin said he has not yet been ruled out for Sunday's game.

"I wouldn't put anything past this guy," Coughlin said of Beason.
