Practice Report: Kiwi picks, Rivers returns, Prince with the starters
There wasn’t much, but here’s what we have as a practice report from today’s storm-shortened session:
Jake Muasau (hamstring) and James Brewer (back) were new to the not-practicing list, joining the four guys on PUP, Justin Tratttou and Michael Boley. Coughlin said that Boley’s MRI came back without much cause for alarm. “It’s called a strain, as far as I know,” Coughlin said. “We’re going to have to get him right. He’s still sore and he doesn’t feel like he can really explode, so we’re trying to get him healthy.”
Keith Rivers, however, who had missed two days with a hamstring as well, was back on the field. Ahmad Bradshaw, who seemed to have a foot issue at the end of Monday’s practice, was also practicing today.
The Giants were in full pads. They managed to get in 15 11-on-11 snaps before the storm ushered them inside. Here are some highlights from those plays:
Eli Manning hit Domenik Hixon in front of Prince Amukamara (yes Prince was playing with the first group in place of Terrell Thomas) with a pass to the left … Antrel Rolle came blasting through on a blitz but the Giants ran away from the pressure with a handoff to Bradshaw going right … DJ Ware took a handoff right but had to cut back to the middle, where he was met by Amukamara who seemed to be in the right position … Mathias Kiwanuka made the play of the abbreviated practice when he jumped up and tipped an Eli Manning screen pass to himself for an interception and a sure pick-six. It was quite an athletic play … Manning hit Cruz on a play-action pass but Justin Tuck would have been there for a sack after beating David Diehl … David Carr hit Brandon Collins but he too would have been sacked, this time by Craig Marshall coming up the middle … Da’Rel Scott took a handoff but had trouble getting out of the backfield on a broken play. Marvin Austin was there to clean it up … Keith Rivers gave the first good pop of the day to Andre Brown on a run to the left side … Scott made a nice juggling catch on a pass from Carr that was nearly disrupted by Spencer Paysinger’s blitz against Henry Hynoski … Brown ran up the middle but Austin was able to grab a hold of his jersey as he went past him … Perrilloux hit Isaiah Stanback with a pass … Austin jumped offsides on a run by rookie David Wilson. Wilson was then popped by Jacquian Williams. It’s not the first time Williams has put a little extra something into a hit against Wilson. Remind me to ask them about that this week … Perrilloux threw an incompletion towards David Douglas … Perrilloux overthrew Stanback deep down the right sideline by about 7 yards … Perrilloux had nowhere to go with the ball and wound up eating it as a sack when Greg Jones blitzed.
That was it. Indoors after that.
And a half-hearted “Bands!”
