QB Bomar 'plays well,' but is that enough?

Does Rhett Bomar think he's ready to lead the Giants if Eli Manning is unavailable?
Replied Bomar: "What do you want me to say, no?"
The question, of course, isn't so much whether Bomar thinks he's ready; it's whether the Giants do. They're the ones who will make the decision whether they need to explore the addition of a veteran backup quarterback.
Bomar gave them three quarters of football to chew on last night - 11-for-24, 171 yards with an interception and a game-winning 60-yard touchdown pass to Duke Calhoun - but came away still uncertain of his standing.
"Who knows what they're thinking?" he said. "I have no clue. They're not going to give you an answer - 'Yeah, that's enough' or 'No, that's not enough.' We'll see what happens."
At least one Giants decision-maker liked what he saw.
"He certainly played well," Tom Coughlin said. "He scrambled well and did some very nice things. He stood in the pocket well . . . There are still some things that I wish we could get corrected from a mechanical standpoint, but he's constantly working and he did a nice job."
Dodge drops snap
Matt Dodge had his best game punting. It was his other responsibility that needed some work.
Dodge has adjusted well in his first year holding for kicker Lawrence Tynes, but he couldn't handle the snap on the extra point after the Giants' first touchdown. The snap appeared to be a touch high, and after bobbling it, Dodge tried to throw it into the end zone. It wound up intercepted by Jerod Mayo. Dodge also had his right hand kicked on an extra point in practice this week.
Giant steps
RB Andre Brown missed the game with turf toe and will be sidelined for about two weeks. He hopes to be able to play in the opener Sept. 12 . . . LB Phillip Dillard injured his hamstring early in the second half and had to be replaced by starting middle linebacker Jonathan Goff. Goff played his best game of the summer with two pass deflections, an interception and two key tackles on the goal-line stand late in the third quarter.
