According to a report from WWLTV.com in New Orleans, Giants rookie safety Chad Jones was involved in a serious auto accident in that city early this morning and is listed in critical condition. The report added that Jones suffered a fractured left leg and had arteries and nerves exposed and was undergoing surgery.

UPDATE: WWLTV.com is now reporting that Jones lost control while driving an SUV, crashed into a street pole, and that two passengers were also injured.

Pat Hanlon, the Giants' vice president of communications, Tweeted that the team was aware of the reports and was gathering information.

Jones, who was drafted out of LSU, was the a third-round selection by the Giants in April and the first of the team's picks to sign a contract. He played football and baseball at LSU.
