Antrel Rolle was flagged for a personal foul and the penalty helped the Eagles toward their only touchdown of the game Sunday. A big mistake by the safety? Depends on whom you ask. Rolle saw it as an important moment for the team.

"I think I definitely had to make a statement and hold my ground," Rolle said Monday. "I just felt like sometimes it's bigger than the game. I didn't want them to get that attitude over us, like they have more swag than us, or they have more passion or more desire or even more toughness. That's where it came from."

Coach Tom Coughlin did not see it Rolle's way. "In a game with so many emotions going on, it really is important to grab a hold of yourself and stay under control," he said. "You could be ejected. You can cost your team valuable yardage in penalties."

Rolle dismissed that. "When I play the game, I play the game," he said. "The coaching gets done Monday through Saturday. Sunday, when I'm on the field, I'm in the zone. If I feel like something needs to be done, I'm going to handle it. I'll take care of disciplinary actions after that."

Tuck to have MRI on neck

Justin Tuck, who missed snaps in the second half because of a flare-up of neck issues, said he will have an MRI but does not expect to miss time. He missed the opener because of the injury but played the last two games. Coughlin said it could be an issue the rest of the season. He said Tuck also has a groin injury.

Giant steps

DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) ran Monday, but Coughlin said there is no telling if he'll practice this week . . . Coughlin said he went for two after the first of two fourth-quarter touchdowns by the Giants to take a six-point lead so "if they score, no matter if they go for two, you kick the field goal and you win." As for not going for two to build a 14-point lead after their second fourth-quarter TD, Coughlin said there was 3:32 left and the Eagles had no timeouts: "I was confident that if they did drive and score, it would be two minutes or under and we would get the onside kick and kneel."
