Rich Seubert was on hand Friday afternoon to receive the Hope Johnson Player of the Year Award from Big Blue Interactive, the Giants' online fan message board. In a classy move, the Giants hosted the small ceremony on their practice field, despite Seubert being cut two weeks ago. In addition to a group of fans, Eli Manning, offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and offensive linemen David Diehl, Kareem McKenzie, Chris Snee and Kevin Boothe came out to watch Seubert get the award.
"It feels a little weird coming back, but . . . I am a Giant," Seubert said. A few teams have contacted his agent but he is still rehabbing from the knee injury he suffered in January and said he's two months away from being anywhere near football ready. "I was blessed to be a New York Giant for 10 years. It's my life, my family's life.
"I'll be at the game [Monday vs. the Bears]. So maybe I can yell at the coaches without them yelling back at me."
Sage returns
After spending three days in a hospital for strep throat, backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels returned to the practice field Friday. His status for Monday is uncertain.
Tom Coughlin said that David Carr, battling Rosenfels for the backup job, was scheduled to get the majority of snaps after Manning's evening ends. Rosenfels was scheduled to play some, too, but Coughlin said that may change now and fourth-string QB Ryan Perrilloux could pick up those reps.
Giant steps
Perrilloux practiced with a camera mounted on his helmet. The Giants are testing it as a coaching tool so they can break down what the passer sees on each dropback . . . K Lawrence Tynes said he won't kick in Monday's game but hopes to be ready for next Saturday's preseason game against the Jets . . . The Giants have agreed to terms with veteran DT Jimmy Kennedy but his signing is not expected to be official for a few days . . . DE Justin Tuck (Achilles), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back) and LB Michael Boley (back) all returned to practice. CB Corey Webster was excused for a death in his family. With Tom Rock
