Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and special teams coordinator Tom Quinn most likely will return to their roles for the 2015 season. A source told Newsday on Monday that "it appears everyone on the coaching staff is coming back."
Tom Coughlin still is evaluating, and some changes still might take place among position coaches or their assistants. But the decisions regarding the coordinators seem to have been reached a week after the Giants ended the regular season with a disappointing 6-10 record.
Fewell in particular was under fire for a defense that underperformed most of the season and was ranked 29th in yardage and 22nd in points allowed. But as Coughlin pointed out last week, the defense also was among the best in the NFL in third-down percentage, sacks and takeaways.
Coughlin also noted improvement in all special-teams statistics, even though there were several key breakdowns in coverages and execution and a heated confrontation between Quinn and punter Steve Weatherford in the Titans game on Dec. 7.
Team president and CEO John Mara expressed dissatisfaction with the defense in his end-of-the-season address and said he would share his thoughts on any coaching changes with Coughlin. Mara made it clear, however, that any decision on the coaching staff would be Coughlin's.
Fewell was hired in 2010 and helped the Giants win Super Bowl XLVI. Quinn has been the special teams coordinator since 2007.
