Still room for 20 more Giants on the roster

Training camp just got a little more crowded.

The NFL has expanded its rosters for the offseason and preseason from 80 to 90 players, giving teams 10 extra bodies for drills and practices and exhibition games. Teams will have to trim that number to 75 after the third week of preseason games and then to 53 by the first week of the season.

According to NFLPA records, the Giants currently have 70 players on their roster who are signed for the 2012 season (although obviously not all of those contracts will matter when people get cut). They’ll be adding seven draft picks in a few days. And then they’ll invite a slew of undrafted players to their rookie minicamp in May, some of whom will likely earn contracts.

All in all, the Giants have room to add another 20 names to their roster by the time they hit the fields of Albany later this summer.
