Defensive back Prince Amukamara continues to practice and continues to hope to make his NFL debut for the Giants. Given that he is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, it doesn't appear as if this is going to be the week.

One possible reason: Even though the first-round pick said Friday he doesn't notice it, apparently he still is showing a limp in practice that coach Tom Coughlin has picked up on.

Amukamara, who hasn't played all season because of a broken bone in his left foot that required surgery in early August, also still has a lot to learn -- including the name of his coach.

"Coach Tomlin . . . I mean Coach Coughlin watches the film and he always says he sees me limp a little bit," he said. "I don't know. Maybe I'm used to limping or maybe I don't feel it."

Coughlin said of Amukamara, "He is coming. We will see. He did some things this week."

Stopping Gore

Osi Umenyiora on Frank Gore: "I would say outside of Adrian Peterson, he's probably the best running back in football."

So how do the Giants plan to stop him?

One way will be to give more playing time to rookie middle linebacker Greg Jones, whom Coughlin likes using in the base defense.

"That is what he does well. He fits in a base personnel," Coughlin said. "He hasn't had many snaps because of the personnel that we have been facing the majority of the time, but this is a regular personnel setup and he will have an opportunity to play more. I think he is equipped and that is why he is in there."
