Tom Coughlin says everyone shares Hakeem Nicks' frustrations

Tom Coughlin said he hasn’t talked to Hakeem Nicks about his display of frustration during Sunday’s win over the Packers, and he sure as heck wasn’t going to talk to anyone else about it either.

“That’s something I’m not going to discuss,” the coach said on a conference call on Monday. “Those things will stay inside.”

Nicks was targeted on a pass in the end zone late in the first half of the victory, but the throw was incomplete. Two plays later, with Nicks on the sideline, Eli Manning threw an interception when Nicks’ replacement, Louis Murphy Jr., ran the wrong route. Nicks was visibly upset over the missed touchdown and the interception and several teammates including Brandon Jacobs and Victor Cruz addressed him before he returned to the game.

Afterwards, Nicks said he was upset because his opportunities for touchdowns have been “few and far between.” He hasn’t caught a scoring pass in the last 13 games and is the only player in the NFL with 35 or more receptions and no touchdowns this season.

“I’m sure that there is (frustration) and we all share in that,” Coughlin said. “(We) just continue to try to support and encourage him to be the best that he can be and it will happen. There have been opportunities, but we’ve just got to continue to try to get better, work together, and it will happen.”
