I spoke with Justin Tuck last week about his role as a leader on the defense and for the entire team. That article will appear on Thursday with our NFL Preview Section.

At some point, probably today, the team will be voting for its captains. Tuck is certainly expected to be named defensive captain for a second straight year. I asked him if he is campaigning for the job.

“Absolutely not,” he said.

Then I asked him what he would think if someone else were named captain instead of him. He paused as if he hadn’t considered the possibility.

“Um, I don’t know,” he said. “I really haven’t thought about it. I guess I expect to be captain, but disappointed? No. It’s not going to stop me from playing the game how I play it or approach the game any different. Captain is a great honor, but I’m still going to go out there and play the game.”
