The Osi Umenyiora bikeathon keeps rolling along.

While all of the new free agents and re-signed players were back on the practice field for the Giants Thursday night, Umenyiora returned to his familiar perch atop an exercise bike with the injured players. According to the Giants, Umenyiora "says he has a sore knee," the attribution suggesting that they are not entirely sold on the concept.

Umenyiora has had a history of knee issues and missed the 2008 season after he had surgery on an ACL tear suffered in a preseason game. At the time of the surgery, he said he had been playing with knee pain for several years and hoped that surgery finally would fix the problem for the rest of his career. That was his left knee in 2008. It is unclear which knee is sore this time.

Umenyiora and the Giants appear to be at a stalemate. The disgruntled defensive end believes he has outplayed his contract and wants a new deal or a trade to a team that will give him one.

Prince agrees

He was the last of the first-round picks to do so, but Prince Amukamara agreed to terms with the Giants Thursday night. He is expected to sign his contract Friday and be on the field for Friday night's practice.

The Giants were beginning to grow weary waiting for the deal, especially after GM Jerry Reese declared it "close" last week. Now, finally, the Giants can get their hands on the player they couldn't believe was available to them in the draft and start crafting him into an NFL cornerback.

Giant steps

DT Rocky Bernard was re-signed less than a week after he was released when the sides could not agree on a reduced contract . . . CB Bruce Johnson was lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles suffered in practice.
