Three days after Brian Cushing was told he would be suspended the first four games of the 2010 season because of a violation of the NFL's steroids policy, The Associated Press decided to re-do the vote for Defensive Rookie of the Year that Cushing won after last season.

Cushing won the original vote by a wide margin, earning 39 of 50 first-place votes. Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who had nine interceptions, was next with six first-place votes.

Cushing is the third NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year to be suspended for steroids, joining Shawne Merriman (2005) and former Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers (2002). Merriman was suspended the next year; Peppers was suspended during his rookie season.
