Back to Business: Jets sign Aaron Maybin & DeAngelo Smith
Updated: 11:56 p.m.: We're awaiting the start of Rex Ryan's presser with the media. In case you missed it, DeAngelo Smith announced his expected one-year deal with the Jets via Twitter Monday.
"First thank GOD for getting me to this point i'm at its been rocky but i keep it steady and on course now its time to grind!! #JETSNATION," he wrote.
Smith, 25, visited the Jets over the weekend. He has played for Browns, Bears and Lions and last appeared in a game in 2009.
I'm sure Rex will have plenty to say about this acquisition.
Off-season workouts/conditioning began Monday -- the first steps toward the 2012 NFL season.
While some players tweeted their excitement about a new season getting underway, others were inking deals.
Like, Aaron Maybin.
The Jets OLB confirmed on Twitter this morning that he has signed a tender with the Jets.
"Just inked the new contract....blessed 2 have this opportunity. Time 2 go to work #mayhem," he wrote.
As a restricted free agent tendered at the first-round level, his contract is a one-year deal with a salary of $1.26 million.
Maybin, 24, was considered by many to be a huge disappointment in Buffalo, which selected him 11th overall in the 2009 draft. But last season with the Jets, he recorded six sacks, 10 tackles and four forced fumbles as a situational pass rusher for the Jets.
...Stayed tuned for more news from Florham Park. Rex Ryan is expected on a conference call later today.
