BOONE: Jets get straight A's
OFFENSEAAfter a week in which they were dissected and ridiculed from all directions, this unit responded in a big-time way. It rolled up 336 yards overall - all but five of those coming in the final three quarters - and rushed for 136. They accumulated 23 first downs and averaged 5.2 yards per play. Mark Sanchez threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Dustin Keller caught seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.
DEFENSE
AThe Jets stiffened up after halftime, limiting the Patriots to only 80 total yards and holding them scoreless. Perhaps the most impressive thing of all, however, was how they responded when Darrelle Revis left with tightness in his hamstring just before the half. They never skipped a beat, and actually seemed to play even better than they did when their All-Pro cornerback was in there.
SPECIAL TEAMS
A
Nick Folk has been money. Folk nailed attempts of 49 and 36 yards and has made all five of his field goals this season. Steve Weatherford was his usual steady if unspectacular self, finishing with a net average of 38.4, and pinning one of his four punts inside the 20-yard line.
COACHING
A
Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer took some heat this past week for his play-calling and he even admitted he'd like to have a few of his calls back. He didn't think he got into a rhythm in Monday's loss, but he sure was Sunday, using a good mix of passes and runs to keep the Patriots off balance. Defensively, they kept things together nicely when Revis went out and they executed their backup plan rather effectively, switching things around in the secondary. Rex Ryan made two great challenges and both were overturned and ruled in the Jets' favor. About the only knock could be that conservative draw play call just before halftime.
