Moore hasn't practiced but plans to play

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Who needs practice? Apparently not Brandon Moore.
The Jets' right guard told reporters he plans to play Sunday against Kansas City despite not practicing all week because of sore hips.
"I don't know if anybody's 100 percent [on game day]," he said. "But I'll be ready to go."
Moore, who had surgery on both hips in the offseason, was held out of practice this week to rest his body. He said the soreness is from an "accumulation" of playing 12 games this season after major surgery.
"To even go this long and not have this kind of situation was a good thing," said the ninth-year lineman, who has started 117 consecutive regular-season games.
The biggest challenge, Moore said, is getting mentally prepared for game day after being a bystander all week.
"It's a little different," he said. "I feel a little odd not being out there at least moving around. I've been limited in practice before and maybe not taken as many reps in previous seasons from an injury or something, but never just completely being out for a whole week.''
Jets coach Rex Ryan said Moore will arrive at MetLife Stadium early on Sunday to go through drills before the coaching staff makes its final decision on his status.
"I just want to make sure that he feels like he cannot just protect himself, but he can function at a high level like he always does," Ryan said.
If Moore can't go, Ryan said 6-4, 302-pound rookie guard Caleb Schlauderaff will start in his place and the Jets will activate 6-7, 333-pound tackle Austin Howard, whom they signed from Baltimore's practice squad two weeks ago.
Ryan also said that for subsequent games, he's considering giving Moore rest during the week, as he has done with LaDainian Tomlinson and other players.
"Anything to get our guys ready to go at their highest level on Sunday, that's what you target," Ryan said. "Clearly, you prefer practice for timing, for communication, for everything. But there's times when it's probably better to not even practice a guy. So it's a balancing act that you've got to weigh."
Moore, however, said he doesn't expect to miss as much practice time as he did this past week. "We'll come up with a plan and we'll see how we go forward with it," he said. "But it's been talked about."
Notes & quotes: There's a "75 percent chance" defensive end Mike DeVito (knee) won't play Sunday, Ryan said. "He comes out to practice every day, so you don't want to just rule him out. He says, 'Please give me another day. Please give me another day.' I don't see it," he said of DeVito's chances. "But the guy is working his tail off to get out there." . . . Running back Joe McKnight (elbow) will be a game-time decision. Rookie running back Bilal Powell will get an opportunity to play because "everybody is hurting," Ryan said.
