FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – C.J. Mosley practiced for the second-straight day and believes he should be able to return this week.

The Jets’ best player sat out last week’s loss in New England with a hamstring injury.

"As long everything keeps progressing the way it is it looks like I will be playing Sunday," Mosley said.

Mosley was missed last week. The defense allowed 54 points to the Patriots. The Jets are playing a more lethal offense Sundays, and Mosley’s presence would certainly help against the Bengals.

But Mosley wants to be smart and make sure he’s not coming back too soon, and risk being out an extended period.

"I definitely want to take it day to day," he said. "You don’t want to overdo it with those type of injuries if you tweak it again it can be another few weeks out. So I definitely don’t want to go through that."

Mosley was a game-time decision last week, but he knew in his warm-ups he wasn’t ready to play. He said it was difficult watching the Jets’ defense perform the way it did.

"Everybody came in Monday, we swallowed our pride, we watched the film," Mosley said. "We saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. It was unfortunately a lot of ugly on the film."

The Jets actually could have the linebacker tandem of Mosley and Jarrad Davis on the field for the first time on Sunday.

Davis, who was signed in the offseason, hurt his ankle during a preseason game in Green Bay. Davis was designated to return to practice this week from injured reserve. He has a shot at being activated and playing Sunday.

The Jets expected big things from Davis as a player and leader this year. Mosley said Davis didn’t miss a beat when he returned to practice.

"He’s a very smart linebacker and he’s a leader," Mosley said. "As soon as he got back on the field, he was in the huddle calling out, giving his two sentence speeches. It’s exciting to have him back out there. Whether he’s out there 100 percent or 95 percent, just his presence and his mindset and his voice is going to help this team and help this defense."

Davis limited

Wide receiver Corey Davis popped on the injury report Thursday with a hip issue. The Jets’ top playmaker was a limited participant in practice.

Linebacker Quincy Williams could be close to being out of the concussion protocol. He was limited after not practicing on Wednesday.

Wilson improving

Jets senior offensive assistant Matt Cavanaugh said before Zach Wilson injured his knee last week, he saw the rookie quarterback making strides with his fundamentals.

"He was a little sloppy earlier in the year in the pocket, not getting his feet set, not getting a good base and driving balls with a good follow-through," Cavanaugh said. "But he’s worked hard the last three weeks and was making progress every week. I’m encouraged by that."
