FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — C.J. Mosley didn’t consider opting out this time.

The surge in COVID-19 cases around the league led to the NFL and NFLPA changing the protocols and gave high-risk players an opportunity to opt out for the remainder of the season. The deadline was 2 p.m. Monday.

Mosley chose to opt out of 2020 because of concerns over COVID-19, but he said he didn’t think about it when it was offered last week.

"No, I didn’t consider it all," Mosley said. "The opt-out option and all that kind of came last minute. They sent out the protocol a few nights ago and gave guys the option. Everything’s been kind of just thrown around and guys are really just trying to do everything they can to make sure that they stay safe, don’t catch COVID, keep everybody else safe. Guys are really just trying to do the right things and make sure they’re staying away from players and staying out of trouble off the field."

The Jets have had an outbreak. Head coach Robert Saleh and 17 players are currently in the COVID-19 protocols.

"As far as me, I’m vaccinated," Mosley said. "I’ve been doing the right things — even before we had the new protocols. I’m going to continue to try to do the same thing and take it one day at a time."

Riley doesn’t practice

Safety Elijah Riley didn’t practice Wednesday because of the concussion he sustained in Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. Riley left the field on a backboard. Saleh said Monday that Riley would play again this season and maybe this week.

Injury report

Jamison Crowder (calf), Mosley (back), Sheldon Rankins (knee) and Bryce Hall (non-COVID illness) did not practice Wednesday. George Fant (knee), Quinnen Williams (shoulder) and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (ankle) were limited.

Mosley didn’t seem concerned about his back. Fant, who didn’t play on Sunday, and Williams, who exited in the third quarter, could be trending toward playing this week.

Two-minute drill

The Jets signed former Patriots wide receiver Isaiah Zuber and cornerback Kendarius Webster to the practice squad. Webster appeared in nine games for San Francisco last season . . . No Jets made the Pro Bowl roster, but three were selected as alternates. Returner Braxton Berrios was named first alternate while linebacker Mosley and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams were chosen third alternates.
