San Diego coach Norv Turner is in his 25th NFL season, which means he's reached the point where he's coaching against the sons of his former adversaries. Asked Wednesday how Jets coach Rex Ryan's defense compares to his dad Buddy's great "46" defenses in Chicago and Philadelphia, Turner suggested the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

"When you put the tape on, you see an extremely well coached team and a team you really have to do a great job against if you're going to attack them and play well against them," Turner said of the Jets. "And that's the same exact thing you saw when you coached against a Buddy Ryan-coached team. It's a challenge. We all know that having guys like [tight end Antonio Gates, quarterback Philip Rivers and wide receiver Vincent Jackson] helps those [offensive] schemes along and having guys like Revis and some of their guys that are playing so well, that hurts all those schemes. But that team is extremely well coached and they create a lot of problems for you."

Of course, just as Buddy was known for his bluster and self-confidence, Rex Ryan has upped the ante with his bold statements about how the Jets should be favored to win the Super Bowl. The Jets coach issued an itinerary last week that ended with a Super Bowl parade.

"I don't know," Turner said of the rhetoric. "It gets on all the talk shows and all of that. Everyone is going to do what he thinks is best for his football team. I believe that's what Rex is doing. We're doing the best for our team. All that stuff is great and it does help your team zero in and focus and help them get ready, but I've been doing this too long. I know when that ball is kicked off, that game is going to be decided between 1:30 and 4:30 our time."
