Could Adalius Be Next?
It's been a wild offseason filled with a flurry of moves for the Jets, and they could be primed to make yet another this week.
LB Adalius Thomas was officially released by the Patriots today, fueling speculation he's headed for New York for a reunion with Rex Ryan and Bart Scott. A source told Newsday the Jets are interested in the former Baltimore Raven, who fell out of favor with Bill Belichick and never lived up to the five-year, $35 million deal he signed with the Patriots in 2007 after seven seasons with Baltimore.
Earlier this offseason, Scott created a few headlines (there's a shock, right?) when he mentioned during a radio interview with ESPN's Mike & Mike that he wanted to come to New York and play for the Jets.
"It's funny," Scott said during the interview. "I was hanging with Adalius Thomas for Super Bowl weekend. We're buddies from back in the day. He made it public that he's expressed an interest in joining Rex. I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens' defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting."
Thomas doused the flames on that fire, however, when he wrote an email to the Boston Globe explaining that he never told anyone he wanted to play for the Jets.
Well, we'll see if he does now.
Thomas is also apparently drawing interest from several teams. Should the Jets sign him, that would likely spell the end for LB Bryan Thomas. Even though Ryan said last week that Thomas wouldn't be released and seemed bothered by an internet report suggesting that would be the case, B.T. has to be the odd man out if the Jets get Thomas' services.
Why?
Calvin Pace surely isn't going anywhere and we know they aren't going to get rid of the newly-signed Jason Taylor. Vernon Gholston is moving to defensive end, so he's out of the picture as well. (I know, most wish of you wish he was out of the league.)
B.T. was worried when the Jets were pursuing Taylor. Wonder how many sleepless nights he'll have this week if the Jets end up courting Thomas.
My edumacated guess: Thomas indeed signs with the Jets.

Now, for another quick bit of news.
According to a league source, these are the undrafted free agents the Jets have signed as well as those who will be brought in for a tryout for this weekend's rookie mini-camp, which begins Friday and concludes Sunday:
