The Jets have requested permission to interview Minnesota Vikings secondary coach Daronte Jones for their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to ESPN.

Jones has been the Vikings' defensive backs coach for five years and the defensive passing game coordinator the last three. He also has spent time coaching on the defensive staffs in Miami and Cincinnati.

He’s worked closely with Brian Flores and could be a candidate to replace him as Vikings defensive coordinator if Flores gets a head coaching job.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said he’s looking for someone he has “synergy” with both personally and philosophically.

Glenn fired Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator with three games left in the season. Chris Harris finished the year in that role.
