Darrelle Revis out vs. Dolphins after suffering concussion

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Cornerback Darrelle Revis has been declared out of the Jets' game against Miami on Sunday at MetLife Stadium because he still is going through the concussion protocol as the result of an injury suffered this past Sunday in Houston. But coach Todd Bowles said the only difference in the Jets' game plan is that Marcus Williams will start at cornerback.
Revis and Williams were beaten for touchdowns by Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins as the Jets (5-5) lost for the fourth time in their past five games. Bowles said Revis was at the practice facility Friday morning but was sent home again when practice began, and the coach expressed confidence in Williams, who leads the Jets with four interceptions.
"I like his poise," Bowles said. "He's very patient, the moment's not too big for him, the ball finds him, very instinctive, very smart player. You put him in and he just makes plays . . . You only have to tell him things once. He's been consistent since the day I met him."
Bowles could have started veteran Buster Skrine in Revis' place, but he prefers to keep Skrine at nickel corner. That way only one position in the secondary is affected, and Williams has become something of a "Mr. Fix-It" this season. He was called upon to play safety when Calvin Pryor was injured as well as cornerback.
"It's been fun playing different positions," Williams said. "It's probably [tough] on other teams because you never know where I'm going to be. Coach said today, 'If you're going to be a utility guy, it means you're a smart guy.' So I take it with pride, knowing that whatever Coach needs me to do, they trust me that I'm going to get the job done no matter what position I'm at."
Williams said he spoke with Revis on Friday before practice to inquire about his condition. "He said he'll be all right," Williams said. "He won't go this week, but he'll be all right."
When the Jets defeated Miami, 27-14, on Oct. 4 in London, they blitzed quarterback Ryan Tannehill more than 20 times, and Williams suggested they might take a similar approach this time.
"If you let Tannehill stay in the backfield without a lot of pressure, we feel he's going to make plays," Williams said. "We feel it's best for us to get after him and make him feel like he's under pressure and, hopefully, get some missed balls."
Notes & quotes: Jets safety Dion Bailey (ankle) did not practice and is listed as doubtful, but everyone else practiced fully and is probable, including wide receiver Brandon Marshall (toe) and center Nick Mangold (hand) . . . Starting Dolphins tackle Ja'Wuan James (toe) is out and all three starting linebackers and wide receiver Jarvis Landry (knee) are listed as questionable. Landry did not practice on Friday.
