Darrelle Revis: Rex Ryan unaware of dissension until too late

Darrelle Revis said Rex Ryan was unaware of how deep the Jets' locker-room fissures went until it was too late to fix them -- which sealed the team's fate en route to an 8-8 finish in 2011.
"He was like, 'I didn't even know,' " Revis said Monday at teammate David Harris' charity golf outing in New Jersey. "It's like, 'Well, it's been going on for a number of weeks now. I don't know how you can't see it.' It's not him being ignorant to the situation . . . Sometimes you might need somebody to come shake you up."
Unbeknownst to Ryan, his players had tried -- and failed -- to resolve their issues internally. But Ryan already has made good on his promise to be more hands-on. Revis and Harris noted he has taken more of an active role in meetings and in defensive installations recently -- a change Revis believes was needed.
"He did fade off a little bit," said the cornerback, who added he was one of a few players to whom Ryan reached out in the offseason to discuss the state of the team. "But he's the head coach, he has a lot on his plate, a lot of pressure. It's just something that maybe he thought he put more trust in the coaching staff, and seeing it kind of hurt us last year, maybe, a little bit."
Revis and Harris are anxious to leave the past behind and said they're optimistic about the season -- including new backup quarterback Tim Tebow. Harris, who recently had dinner with Tebow, said he believes he will be a "huge addition. Everybody knows what he can do. He beat us single-handedly [17-13 in Week 11], so we've seen it up close and personal."
Rookie signs. RB Terrance Ganaway signed a four-year deal Monday.
