Jets' Davante Adams would like to stay with the team beyond this season
Now that they’re together again, Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers hope to be teammates with the Jets beyond this season.
The Jets would have to rework Adams’ contract. He has two years, $72.5 million remaining , but it’s non-guaranteed. Adams wants to be with the Jets for multiple years.
“I hope so. That’s the plan,” Adams said Wednesday. “I want to be here. I never go somewhere in hopes of having to find a new home. That’s the hope.”
Adams was acquired from the Raiders on Tuesday. He asked to be traded to the Jets so he could play with Rodgers again. They spent eight years together in Green Bay.
Rodgers, 40, has indicated that he would like to play past this year , and that he would decide that after the season. Rodgers said re-uniting with Adams has rejuvenated him and makes him want to keep playing.
“Yeah, of course, man,” Rodgers said. “I never thought this was possible. Having him here and then the ability to pair him with a budding superstar in Garrett Wilson, that’s a pretty special combination.”
Where’s Mike?
Receiver Mike Williams did not practice due to personal reasons. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich never mentioned Williams when he gave injury updates. With Adams here, Williams is the odd man out. The Jets are expected to try and trade Williams, who signed a one-year deal in the offseason.
Mosley’s role
Linebacker C.J. Mosley played only nine snaps in Monday’s loss to Buffalo after missing the prior three games with a toe injury. Ulbrich said Mosley would play more Sunday night, but he isn’t ready to commit to Mosley resuming his normal every-down role when his body can handle it. The Jets like what Jamien Sherwood has done in Mosley’s absence and All-Pro Quincy Williams is firmly entrenched as a starter.
“When we get to that point it’s going to be a good conversation,” Ulbrich said. “We’ve got three guys that we want to integrate and three guys that we want to feature. It’ll be a good conversation.”
Two-minute drill
Cornerback D.J. Reed, who suffered a groin injury Monday, is in danger of missing this week’s game. “It’s a concern,” Ulbrich said. He also said that slot cornerback Michael Carter II (back) “probably won’t” play. Carter was out Monday, too. Brandin Echols and Isaiah Oliver would replace them. … The Jets worked out kickers Cade York, Riley Patterson and Matt Coghlin. Greg Zuerlein missed two potential go-ahead field goals Monday and another one in the final minute of the team's 10-9 loss to Denver in Week 4.
